WORKSHOPS
Dr. Clayton has developed and delivered workshop programs to
groups at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters,
St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children, and the Norfolk
YMCA among others.
He is available for lectures on a wide range of health topics
including back safety, stress, carpal tunnel syndrome, nutrition,
wellness and many other programs for industry and organizations
and will consult with your organization to align the workshop
to your needs. Among the topics Dr. Clayton can provide
presentations on are:
Align Your Spine
Chiropractic care for children is just as important as chiropractic
care for adults. Just about all children will receive
the bumps and bruises associated with everyday life as a child,
but what is the unseen damage this is causing? In this
workshop, Dr. Clayton will discuss issues related to conditions
faced by children and the wisdom in treating these conditions
early before they become problems. Included in this workshop
is a posture and scoliosis screening. This workshop will
provide vital information to parents as they face the health
care decisions for their children. Workshop lasts approximately
30-45 minutes.
Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a condition which affects many and for which
there is no known cause or cure. Patients generally complain
of an overall fatigue and aches and of the feeling that someone
has “unplugged their power cord.” This workshop
provides education and solutions to sufferers and their loved
ones about this condition and the ways in which chiropractic
care can help alleviate the symptoms. Workshop lasts
approximately 30-45 minutes.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Even if you do not yet feel the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome,
you are a probable victim if you work with your wrist in a
non-linear position, do repetitious movements with your hands,
or do high-load or wrist twisting activities with your hands. This
workshop is for everyone who is looking for a way to prevent
and/or treat carpal tunnel syndrome. Through ergonomically
correct workstations and chiropractic adjustments, this syndrome
can be alleviated. Workshop lasts approximately 30-45
minutes.
Keep Fit While You Sit
Computers provide wonderful benefits to the workplace and home
life, but they can be harsh to the body if you don’t
sit properly and stand to take breaks. In this hectic
world, that can be easier said than done. This workshop
provides ways to create ergonomically correct workstations
and educate participants on other ways to reduce stress to
the mind and body during the workday. If you are looking
for a way to have higher energy, greater effectiveness at work
for you or your staff, better digestion and respiration, and
fewer muscle aches, back tension, and headaches, this is the
workshop for you! Workshop lasts approximately 30-45
minutes.
Living Well for Life & Staying Young Your First
100 Years
Wouldn’t you like to improve your health for the next 10,
the next 20, the next 30 years? How about for the rest
of your life? It is true that a healthy environment and
preventative health care can help us avoid most degenerative
diseases! We know this, yet maybe we lack the specific
tools to make this a reality in our own lives. This workshop
will educate participants on the six steps to living well for
life including factors related to nutrition, exercise, positive
attitude, and mobility among others. Workshop lasts approximately
45-60 minutes.
Peak Performance
In this world of stress from the birthing process, through childhood
falls, automobile accidents, athletics, and general everyday
stress, we expect our bodies to perform at their optimal level. Are
you doing everything you can to provide your body with what
it needs to live up to these expectations and perform at peak
levels? This workshop provides participants with practical
solutions to use preventative health care to lessen or decrease
the chances of problems from ever occurring. Focus on
taking care of yourself even when you feel fine! Workshop
lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Stress
It is an unavoidable fact of life—family, friends, work—all
the things we love also cause stress (both emotional and physical). Stress
affects our ability to do our daily living and can dramatically
reduce productivity in the workplace—ironically leading
to more stress. This workshop provides participants with
the tools to prevent stress and to deal with it in healthy ways
rather than allowing it to dominate their lives. This workshop
is particularly useful to the workplace to assist all team members
with increasing productivity and creating a positive working
atmosphere. Workshop lasts approximately 30-45 minutes.
Backpacks and Your Kids
Did you know that almost 5000 visits to emergency rooms each
year are attributed to backpacks? There is an alarming
trend in the injuries caused by children wearing and carrying
backpacks that their bodies are not designed to support. Some
of these injuries do not manifest themselves for years. This
workshop will provide participants with the education about
what type of backpack is best, how a backpack should be properly
worn, how to properly pack a backpack, and how much a backpack
should weigh. The workshop will also provide information
on how chiropractic care can help prevent these types of injuries
and assist those who already have been injured. Workshop
lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Pain Free Golf
Most golfers desire to decrease injuries and improve performance. As
in any fitness or exercise, in order to have the highest level
of performance, the body must be performing optimally. Avid
golfers, as with any sport, often overuse certain muscles and
are more prone to injury. This workshop, co-presented with
a golf pro, will provide tips on how to avoid injury and improve
performance on the links. Workshop lasts approximately
45-60 minutes.
Living with a Healthy Back
4 out of 5 adults will experience low back pain and this will
cost 50-75 million dollars of care in the US alone. This
workshop will help participants understand who is prone to
back injuries, how we injure our backs, what we can do once
we injure our backs, and new strategies to prevent injuries. Remember: there
is no such thing as a normal backache—your body is telling
you something! Workshop lasts 30-45 minutes.
A Woman’s Guide to Pregnancy and Chiropractic
Care
The health of a pregnant woman is vital
to the development of her baby. There are many known bodily changes during pregnancy—weight
gain, nausea, swelling of the hands and feet—there are also
less known changes—postural strain on the neck and back,
stretching and strain of ligaments, sciatica, pelvic constraint
to name a few. Before, during, and after pregnancy, chiropractic
care provides tremendous benefit to women and to their infants.
In this workshop Dr. Clayton will also discuss the Webster Technique
which helps correct sacral misalignment, balance pelvic muscles
and ligaments and removes inutero constraint, allowing a baby to
move into the best possible position for birth. This technique
can help a breech baby move him/her self into a more proper birthing
position. This workshop will help women explore the
benefits of chiropractic care and can be presented in conjunction
with a midwife. Workshop lasts 45-60 minutes.
